Company and community come together to celebrate the honor
for a respected leader in the field

Bakersfield, California
July 15, 2008 —

In ceremonies held July 10, 2008 at the corporate offices of Fleet Card Fuels, Inc. staff, community supporters, and friends of the company joined representatives from the area’s elected officials to celebrate the company’s award from the California Council of Excellence announced earlier this year.

Fleet Card Fuels was honored for innovation, world-class service, and performance excellence by the California Council for Excellence. The announcement made January 31, 2008 by the Council names Fleet Card Fuels among only 12 organizations to reach the highest level of achievement in the California Awards for Performance Excellence.

The award program, which emulates the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Program, recognizes organizations that demonstrate superior performance in seven key business areas including leadership strategic planning, customer and market focus, measurement and knowledge management, human resources, process management, and business results.

Holly Culhane, President of P•A•S Associates served as the morning’s emcee. Ms. Culhane provides human resources consulting for Fleet Card Fuels and spoke to witnessing from her unique vantage point the astounding development of the company in the past 36 months.

MaryAnn Pranke, Chair of the CAPE Awards, was the first presenter at the ceremony. Before handing the trophy to Fleet Card Fuels President Rick Davies, she noted that, “The Council uses the same criteria for evaluating organizations as the national program. The rigorous Baldrige Criteria are recognized internationally as the hallmark for performance excellence and allow us to select award winners to serve as role models for all California organizations.”

Upon receiving the award Mr. Davies called the award application development team to the podium to thank all those who worked to craft the winning submittal.

“This achievement represents the work and determination of all 88 of our employees,” said Mr. Davies. He went on to thank those in attendance and offered special praise to Henry Medina, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Fleet Card Fuels, for his work to position the company to compete, his inspiration to apply for the award, and his role in directing the many months of work to complete the complex, 50-page document.

City of Bakersfield Mayor Harvey L. Hall presented a Proclamation from the Office of the Mayor to Mr. Davies and spoke to the pride of the city to have such a progressive organization based in Bakersfield.

One by one, representatives from the offices of State Senator Roy Ashburn, State Senator Dean Florez, Assembly Person Nicole Parra, Assembly Person Jean Fuller, and County Supervisor Mike Maggard presented beautiful certificates of recognition to Mr. Davies.

Ms. Culhane presented a letter from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, which stated in part, “I extend my congratulations to Fleet Card Fuels. Thank you for your adherence to the highest standards of excellence and I wish you every future success.”

Richard D. Chapman, President and CEO of the Kern Economic Development Corporation addressed the crowd to convey the EDC’s appreciation of the achievement. He noted that the EDC is focused mostly on quantitative measures of local commerce, and that it was inspiring to learn about the qualitative accomplishments of Fleet Card Fuels.

Mr. Medina closed the ceremonies by recognizing the quality and dedication of his staff and the support of community leaders and elected officials. He then invited all to join in the conference room for catered refreshments.
