Loung
Choa
For Loung Choa, it’s a family affair when it comes
to the retail business. Loung and his wife Melissa own and
operate four retail facilities under three brands: Shell,
Chevron and Mobil. Their flagship location, Airport Shell
in Bakersfield, California, was the start of a convenience
store empire.
Born in Cambodia, Loung and his family immigrated to South
Dakota when Loung was just 16 years old. While living in South
Dakota, Loung and his family owned and operated a Conoco Phillips
station. Loung sold that store and ventured west to Bakersfield,
California in 1989. Loung purchased the Airport Drive location
and then began the process of moving his parents and siblings
to California. The Choa family now operates a total of 18
convenience store locations throughout Central and Southern
California. Loung commented that he always wanted to own his
own business, “I really wanted my own business, and
though this industry isn’t easy, I enjoy a challenge.”
The future looks very challenging for Loung and Melissa, as
they get ready to add two more Shell locations in the near
future.
Fleet Card Fuels is honored to have the Choa family as part
of our cardlock and dealer divisions.
